How It Works

From browsing to applying — our five-step process, editorial methodology and scoring system explained in full.

Five steps from browse to apply

Every comparison on Tecnicos Australia follows the same transparent workflow — whether you are looking at credit cards or savings accounts.

Choose your category

Start by selecting the product type you need — credit cards, transaction accounts, personal loans or savings. Each category page lists every product we currently track, refreshed daily.

Filter by your priorities

Sort and filter by comparison rate, fees, bonus conditions or our editorial score. Focus on the features that match your situation — cashback, fee-free banking, fixed-rate loans or high-interest savers.

Compare side by side

Review products in a single table with headline rates, comparison rates, fees and key conditions displayed together. No clicking through five bank websites to find the same information.

Read the editorial review

Each top-ranked product includes a plain-English review covering strengths, limitations and who it suits best. We also disclose any affiliate relationship before you click through.

Apply with the provider

When you are ready, follow the link to the lender or bank's official application page. We never handle your application or collect financial details on our site.

Our editorial methodology

Every product on Tecnicos Australia passes through a structured review process before it appears in our comparison tables. Our methodology is designed to be repeatable, auditable and free from commercial influence.

Data collection and verification

Our analysts collect product data directly from lender websites, product disclosure statements and published rate sheets. Each morning AEST, we verify interest rates, comparison rates, annual fees, bonus conditions and promotional expiry dates against the provider's current documentation.

If a rate changes overnight, our tables reflect the update by the next business day at the latest. Products we cannot verify are flagged or temporarily removed until confirmation is obtained.

Product eligibility and scope

We include products available to Australian residents aged 18 and over. We cover major banks, credit unions, neobanks and specialist lenders operating in the Australian market. Products with restricted availability (e.g. invitation-only) are excluded unless publicly accessible.

Editorial review standards

Every product in our top picks receives a written review by a finance editor with at least eight years of Australian market experience. Reviews cover:

  • Who the product suits and who it does not
  • Hidden fees, revert rates and conditions that marketing pages often omit
  • Digital banking experience, app quality and customer service reputation
  • How the product compares to category averages

Affiliate disclosure

Some outbound links on our site are affiliate links — meaning we may earn a commission if you apply. This is always disclosed near the link. Affiliate status never affects a product's score or table position. Our About Us page contains our full independence statement.

How our scoring works

Each product receives a score out of 5.0 based on objective data and qualitative editorial assessment. Paid placements cannot improve a score.

Rates and fees (40%)

Comparison rates, interest rates, annual fees and ongoing charges weighted against category benchmarks. Lower cost products score higher.

Features and conditions (25%)

Bonus rate conditions, rewards structures, fee waivers, loan flexibility and savings features assessed for real-world value.

Digital experience (20%)

Mobile app quality, online banking usability, account setup speed and digital support channels evaluated by our editorial team.

Customer reputation (15%)

Public complaint data, review aggregator scores and editor experience with provider support inform this component.

What the scores mean

  • 4.5 – 5.0: Exceptional — category-leading rates or features with few meaningful drawbacks
  • 4.0 – 4.4: Strong — competitive product worth serious consideration
  • 3.5 – 3.9: Good — solid option with some trade-offs versus top picks
  • Below 3.5: Not featured in our top picks — may have high fees, poor conditions or limited availability

Scores are recalculated whenever underlying product data changes. A rate cut or new fee can move a product up or down without manual intervention from commercial teams — because none exist on our editorial side.
